The prices in Southern California is dropping at a steady pace for the last two weeks including diesel. Kepp on conserving and go to lower prices station only. Its all about the demand and profits (give your business to lower prices stations)

The lowest here today is $3.17. but my guess is they are looking for an excuse to rase it.. I would like to see $2,00 gas again..

To stabilize gasoline prices we need competition. Otherwise we need price control. With utilities the government regulates the rates. If we want to keep the government out of it, we need alternative fuels independent of the oil companies.
Lobby congress to actively support alternative energy. The oil companies are lobbying congress to support oil without any regulation. Congress will listen to their constituents. Call, write, or e-mail them. They need to hear from thousands of us daily until they get the message. If they don't listen, vote the incumbents out. Look at the mess this country is in, the incumbents are not doing anything worthwhile anyway. We have nothing to loose.

I'm paying an independent $3.51 a gallon for regular. So Houston is just a little bit cheaper.
And the west coast is much hotter (red/yellow) on the 'Gas Price Temperature Map' then Houston is (green).

who cares unless you live in TEXAS. i live in maryland, the cheapest is in the middle of nowhere on the eastern shore...who cares? find the cheapest gas in the whole country and then it's sorta interesting.

There are refineries in most of the states (or within close access). Logistically, they are not going to refine in Texas and truck it to Washington. That would drive the price way up. The only effect is that because texas is shut down, they have to get from near by refineries and the effect trickles to other refineries from there.
What makes real sense is how the price can jump up in a place like Utah when the demand has not reached there yet. That is real supply and demand economics. The oil industry has its own kind of economics, 'Gouge Economics'.

We have refineries in Utah and they still continue to charge 3.77-4.00. Our octane starts at 85 with that price...so we continue to get the shaft in Utah.

It is more than obvious that oil production and natural elements have kinda little impact on gas prices at the pump. It is just business, and speculations that play a huge role behind.

Of COURSE it's cheaper in Texas:
1. The EPA relaxed the reformulation standard after Gustav
2. The oil companies shipped every spare gallon of gas to Texas. They're floating on supply right now, while Lansing, Michigan's prices are going from $3.69 to $3.89 just this morning!!! UGGGGHHHH

It is odd. Before Gustav, our local prices jumped 20 cents. At that time, a lot of areas of the country saw no change. Now, this article and several posts below indicate prices jumping significantly, but now our local prices are dropping steadily (about 2 cents a day).
