Will B.C. voters pay more to go green?
Monday, September 08, 2008
CTV.ca -- For the first time, the Green Party of Canada is heading to the polls looking down right mainstream.

"It very well might be our first environmental election where that issue is top of the agenda," says University of British Columbia political scientist professor Fred Cutler.

It's good news for the party's star candidate, Adriane Carr.

"I hope the environment is the big issue and, in fact, the ballot question: the question that people go into the ballot box and mark an 'x' beside the green," says the Vancouver-Centre Green candidate.

Now that BC is one of the "have" Provinces it is entirely possible that they will be willing to pay more, for everything impacted by the price of fuel.

Quote: "wants to shift gas tax revenue to public transit"

Tell me where that makes any sense at all. You're going to take the gas tax and put it toward public transportation? And when more people start using public transportation and driving less, what will be used to supplement the loss in tax revenue?

And how much will prices go up for 'green' to happen?
Usually green means 'spend more money'......

To stabilize gasoline prices we need competition. Otherwise we need price control. With utilities the government regulates the rates. If we want to keep the government out of it, we need alternative fuels independent of the oil companies.

Lobby congress to actively support alternative energy. The oil companies are lobbying congress to support oil without any regulation. Congress will listen to their constituents. Call, write, or e-mail them. They need to hear from thousands of us daily until they get the message. If they don't listen, vote the incumbents out. Look at the mess this country is in, the incumbents are not doing anything worthwhile anyway. We have nothing to loose.

Yup, more taxes to people who already can't afford living expenses because these government can't get their acts together and find a way to drive back down what is causing our pain. OIL!!! If I was still paying $1 a gallon I wouldn't care too much if the taxes went up to help pay for public transportation. But when I can barely afford my groceries because cost of living shot up way over what my raise is, well any tax increase I will vote against.

personally as far as taxes go, i wouldn't mind paying them too much if i KNEW the money would be well spent but governments around the world, WASTE the great revenue they get on ridiculous programs and other crap.

Shouldn't we be taxing individuals using fossil fuels as opposed to renewable resources to encourage less reliance on fossil fuels?

How much is more? Can we afford not to be more sensitive to the affect we have on the environment? At what cost?

There really is nothing wrong with going green, unless you don't have children or don't care about your fellow humane being! Oh! That's right you won't be around in fifty years so, WHY DO YOU CARE? It is not the answer to all are woes but it is a start!

This election is going to be an extreme joke. We have Debt, Infastructure, and the economy to worry about. But everyone is being so gullibly toted towards Green being the answer to all of our woes.

Going Green right now will do nothing for fixing gas prices. Going Green right now will cause the government to acquire more debt (even if they tax us for it, because they will use the money for something else). Going Green will not fix the roads, electrical grids, the sewer and water systems. It won't get the trains and buses running anywhere except to Toronto, Vancouver, or Montreal (guess what, they already have these systems). We are tied so closely to the US dollar. No Green initiative is going to keep our economy from sliding with them.

Stop listening to the 'State of Fear' that the media is toting. Pay off the debt, fix our country, and deal with the hospital beds. Put a 'green' slant on things if you like, but deal with the main issues (and get the government to do the same) and the rest will follow.

Guess what, you won't get any of this stuff done by the green party or the liberals.

Roo08, what kinda crack are you smokin'?

The USA has one of the best medical systems when it comes to technology, yes, but to say we have the best health care system, you are living in another world...

The USA ranks like something around 37 in the world when it comes to the health of the nations, and if you look at some segments of the population, countries like Paraguay, Brazil, Chile, even many of the former Soviet block satallite countries have better health than we do...

Do your research before you say crap like you did.

Greens are like any liberal... hypocrites. At the DNC up the road from me in Denver last month, the liberals reserved every gas-guzzling limousine available. They are elitists that believe everyone else should conserve energy so they can live their elitist lifestyle.
